Privacy Policy

The short version

Your data lives on your device. We don't sell it, share it, or look at it. Cloud sync is opt-in. AI conversations are processed by Anthropic — not stored by us. Document photos never leave your phone. You can export or delete everything at any time.

Who we are

Solace is a personal final affairs planning application operated by Solace App Co. ("Solace", "we", "us", or "our"). We are reachable at privacy@solaceapp.ai.

What we collect

Without an account: We collect nothing. Everything you enter — names, documents, wishes, crisis notes, contacts, digital accounts — is stored exclusively in your browser's local storage on your device. It never touches our servers.

With an account (optional, required only for cloud sync): We store:

We do not store your documents, wishes, crisis notes, contacts, obituary text, digital account details, or any personal information about you or your loved one on our servers, unless you explicitly enable cloud sync.

How your data is used

Your data is used only to provide the Solace service to you. We do not sell, rent, license, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising, marketing, or any commercial purpose. Ever.

AI conversations

When you use the Solace AI assistant, your messages and limited app context (name, mode, checklist progress) are sent to Anthropic, PBC to generate responses. This processing is governed by Anthropic's Privacy Policy. Anthropic does not use your data to train their models without explicit consent.

Solace does not log, store, or retain AI conversation content on our servers. Your conversation history is stored locally on your device only.

Document photos

Photos you attach to documents are stored in your browser's local storage on your device only. They are never uploaded to our servers, even when cloud sync is enabled. When you export a JSON backup, photos are included. When data is synced to the cloud, photos are stripped and remain on your device.

Payment processing

Payment processing is handled by Stripe, Inc. We never see, store, or have access to your credit card number, CVV, expiry date, or full billing address. Stripe processes all payment data under their own Privacy Policy. We receive only a customer ID and subscription status from Stripe.

For iOS purchases made through the App Store, payments are processed by Apple under Apple's terms. For Android purchases made through Google Play, payments are processed by Google under Google's terms.

Analytics

Solace collects anonymous, privacy-safe usage events (for example: "opened chat", "completed planning checklist", "pro upgrade viewed") to understand how the product is used and where to improve it. These events contain no personal information — no names, no content, no email addresses, no identifying details. We do not use third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics or Meta Pixel.

Cookies and tracking

Solace uses no advertising cookies, no tracking pixels, and no cross-site tracking. We use a single session token stored in your browser's local storage to keep you signed in. We do not track you across other websites or apps.

Data retention

If you delete your account, all data associated with it (email, sync data, payment records) is permanently deleted from our servers within 30 days. Your local device data can be deleted at any time using the Your Data screen within the app.

If you have a Stripe subscription, payment records are retained by Stripe for their legal and tax obligations, independent of your Solace account.

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your CCPA rights, contact privacy@solaceapp.ai.

Solace is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately at privacy@solaceapp.ai.

Security

We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption in transit, bcrypt-equivalent token signing, and encrypted database storage (Turso). However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. Given the sensitive nature of end-of-life information, we strongly encourage you to use the JSON export feature to maintain offline backups.

Changes to this policy

We will notify you of material changes to this Privacy Policy via email (if you have an account) and via an in-app notice. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Solace after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
